The other night when driving home from work I hit a massive pothole resulting in an instant flat!

Looking into claiming for a new tyre from the council, just wondering if anyone has done this before?

In my experience it's so much more hassle than its worth I never saw any money for a buckled wheel and new tyre because I couldn't prove that it had happened there and when it ha happened etc.

I've done this, you have to be seriously s**t hot with it though.

I was driving down Durham marketplace in my housemates mk3 golf, I hit a pothole and the tyre instantly went down.

I got out and took a photo of the pothole, a photo of the tyre as well showing the tread.

I then changed the wheel.

The next day I went to my local national tyres, got a fake receipt for the replacement tyre, went to County Hall with evidence in tow and filled out the form, three days later I got my money for the tyre.

Meanwhile, I switched the wheels on the mk3 which were black A3 wheels for some silver ones I'd bought from the yellow paper for £50 with decent tyres, took the tyres off the black one, slapped some 165's on an put them on my mk2.

Bit of an off tangent essay but it gets my point across. It was painless and easy, just gotta be prepared when it happens and refuse to leave county hall till you see an actual person from the relevant department.

Yep definatly worth pursueing. I had exactly the same and it cost me a new tyre ,i photographed the pothole as evidence. Initially the council said it could have happend anywhere but 3 days later the pothole was miraculuosly filled in ,so i took another pick and argued my point if they had no blame why did it get filled in. I got a cheque 3 weeks later.

Dont let them get away with it!!!

Have a look on this site to see if it was previously reported, if not then get it on the site in case anyone else has the same problem!; http://www.potholes.co.uk/ I think the council may only be interested in shelling out if you can show they were already aware of the hole and hadn't fixed it, but I'll stand corrected.

i did the same thing a couple of years ago in a fiesta ,i took pictures of the pot hole+ my wheel ,date + time any body seen you hit pothole,get there names,it took about 6 weeks with wigan council,i had my wheel repaired as it was buckled about £70 i payed for it, and had to send receipt off but got my full money back.suppose it depends on the council.
