Sound actuator on 6R GTI

Hi guys don't know if you already knew or not but there is a sound actuator on the 6R GTI. The purpose of this is to make the engine sound sporty (almost V6 like) when in reality its only a 1.4! Basically its like a speaker so im told..

I took mine off today after reading about it on a NL forum, it sort of reminds me of them fake dump valves you get. Trust VW..

Now my car is sounding alot more quiet but I personally prefer this on longer journeys (especially motorways) so your ears dont get that constant throaty noise.

Some people like it, some don't,

If you want to disconnect it, its under the bonnet on the right hand side beneath a plastic speaker looking case. Heres a link to the NL page, may help if you get a translator, (also note the car is left hand drive in the pic so on a right hand drive gti its on the right side) http://mypolo.nl/viewtopic.php?f=34&t=1972

I took mine off straight away, personally it sounds better as you can actually hear the supercharge working!

Takes 5 minutes,

I don't know about taking it off, I'd like to know what else I could do with that connection. Bigger sound generator to sound like a V10 twin turbo to scare old biddy's.

I removed the 'sound actuator' today, and I think it's a great improvement.

I didn't mind the noise under heavy acceleration, but there was an annoying drone at motorway speeds that is now gone.

Interesting, I wondered how they made a 1.4 sound quite good. Anyone got a video without it so I can hear what it sounds like? I do love a good supercharger whine 8)

Does the Milltek exhaust make it sound better? I'm having one fit in a couple of months.

Yes, the Milltek definitely makes a nice sound that suits the GTI!

Here you can hear the soundaktuator when activated and deactivated:

It pulls out a couple of centimeters, then you should be able to pull the whole plug out!

Thanks :)

Makes quite a difference, I think I prefer it with it activated though, I'll leave mine on for now.

how does the guy in the video switch it on and off? That would have been a sensible option!

I just pulled mine hard and it came off :D

It needs a very hard pull indeed!

About the switching, someone over here in the Netherlands did it like this: http://www.mypolo.nl/forum/showthread.p ... ndaktuator

Picture 1: Daytime, lights off
Picture 2: Lights on, aktuator off
Picture 3: Lights on, aktuator on
Picture 4: Overview dashboard.

Original VW switch, his dealer made this for him. The dealer never did this before and was busy for like 5 hours. With the normal VW workshop hourprice this could be very expensive. Hope someone will try this himself and write a how to for us all! ;)
