Its me again

I have just bought a VW bee sting from e-bay. The fitment of it should not be a problem, but am I right in assuming that the single black lead from it (aside from the aerial connector) is a power cable?

If I'm right, where is the best place to connect this to on the car

There shouldn't be any worries with earthing it, as long as part of the base of the arial touches the bodywork. Just a straight case of drilling a hole in ya roof, sealing the job up, and hooking it up to the headunit with an extension cable.

?? I thought that these were amplified aerials and that the base earthed itself through the nut into the roof and that the black lead was to power the amplifier

Yeah, self eathing, but they connect up to the headunit using a standard ISO lead. The amplified just means that its supposed to give better signal strength. I hope I have got the right end of the stick here

No you havn't got the wrong end of the stick lol

This aerial has got the ISO connector at the base (the one that goes to the head unit), but it also has a singular black wire that I have no idea what it is for. I thought that it might be to power the amplifier, but I have no idea where to connect the damn thing to.

That is tricky, can't say I've come across that before. Any details included with the arial?

Nope I got from e-bay. Its an OEM part tho for VW, but thats about all I could tell you

If its meant for the Mark3, it could possibly have been a replacement for the ones fitted to G40's (they were the only Polo Mark3 to come with a factory fit bee sting). It might be worth checking with the guys in the other Polo forums in case its off a Mark4/5 or newer, or maybe a G40? If all else fails maybe go to your VW dealer and see what they can do to help you. I'm stuck for ideas now...

yes its apower wire... it'll be a poor signal without it...!!!!
