Polo 9n3 headunit power problem

Post by LawShe »

I bought an Alpine CDE-W235BT from Halfords and had it fitted today. The guy told me that I have to manually turn off the head unit when I stop the car and that it wont turn off when I take the key out of the ignition. Is this true or is he just bs'ing me because he couldn't be bothered to do a proper job?

I've just fitted this unit in my 9n3 gti. You do need to bring a switched live upto the unit, I spurred off the 12v socket. Unit now operates as it should. If your local I can do this for you.

About a metre of thin ish gauge wire and a couple of female and male connectors. A multimeter would also be handy aswell as a sharp blade and some insulation tape.

You can also purchase a CAN bus adaptor. There's a discussion about this particular head unit in the 9n3 forum: http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 43&t=55879

ok, how did you route the cable from the fag lighter supply to the back of the head unit?

very easily, the gear surround just lifts/pops up and it gives you access to the fag lighter wiring, the i fed the wire under the plastics, up past the left hand knee position and round to the back of the radio. it is fiddly but very easy. no wire on show etc etc and youd never know id done it.

Hi Guys,I want to purchase the W235BT but i know nothing about changing a stock stereo, have not done it before.
Found it for 199 at halfords, seems like a perfect choice for my polo 9n3.I need some advise on how to fit it! do not want to pay halfords 24.99 to do it for me.Can someone take me step by step how to do it and what exactly i need as a bare minimum to make it work, i've seen some of you guys say about the stereo not turning off and it has to be done manually. Whats the easiest way to get around this.Generally what do you guys think of the system?? does it make a major improvement to the sounds with stock speakers? I was also considering getting new speakers in .Any help would be appreciated. PM me or reply to the thread please. Thanks so much
