Just wondering what fuel everyone uses?
ran my polo gti on normal fuel (95)
now run it on v power (99)
deffo noticed the difference when i swapped
get about 150-180 miles to half a tank and have seen 200 on just over half, wondering if my figures match to everyone else?

Yeah I use V Power too and have done in all of my cars, it is more expensive but its good for the car and worth the extra few pennies IMO
You dont tend to notice the difference on a TDi if you use V Power Diesel but on a petrol engine you can certainly notice a difference when compared to standard 95 octane unleaded.

Same here V-Power or Tesco 99 although it's V-Power 99 times out of 100.
Makes the car faster lol

that's my curiosity cured! haha, i had noticed that inside the fuel cap its reccomeneds either 95 or 98, but i'm guessing one octane makes no difference

Yep, I use V-Power as well. Costs a fair whack but I swear it feels more responsive. And the economy's better with it as well, but that said mine changes her fuel economy depending on her mood lol.

It could be a placebo effect, but my GTI feels way better running on higher octane.
As an aside, 99 RON is tricky to come by close to where I live, would filling up with 97 RON be pointless?

I always thought it was just me, my fuel economy went up when I switched to V Power, seems more powerful/responsive too if thats possible

To be honest, most of the super-unleaded brands have all those cleaning compounds inside to help them burn better and clean the engine. I've got a friend who used to work at a Shell refinery who was insistent that V-Power was better than BP Ultimate and the rest because it had more of these compounds as well as a higher RON rating. I was never really convinced to be honest though. It's designed to run on 95 RON, so anything above that is a plus I reckon.

Vpower, mines mapped for it though.

Fair enough!

As far as I know, the car tunes itself down when there are knocks or pings in the engine from lower rated fuel.

I'm well aware of that however its mapped to make the most of it so I use it.
I can also switch the map for 95ron fuel which reduces the ignition advance to prevent pre detonation.

That's pretty cool. Can you switch maps on the fly?

Not quite. It's a case of ignition on, insert switch into obd port, job done done.
Very quick and easy but not quite on the fly.
