Hi everyone, been putting this off for quite a while so here goes;
I'm Seb, 19 YO

Bought a 3 door, X reg, 1.0 polo in bright red at the end of march 2012 for relatively low price, but needed a fair amount of work (actually a crap load :p )
My friend drove it home as I hadn't passed yet!
Was running a bit rough, misfiring etc so new HT leads went in
Off came the crappy aftermarket bodykit, bumpers and sideskirts and also took off door strips- a big mistake I have now realised, water made a little home in the car :/
Next took the dash apart and doorcards off, to replace the glovebox and check why the passenger speaker wasnt working
Found some aftermarket central locking pumps and a ghetto wired in thatcham alarm, complete with 2 meters of leccy tape surrounding it..
Bought a new remote central locking kit from RCLICK, full system! I suggest drilling out a hole in the door cylinder things.
Got new front bumper, rear crash bar, rear bumper, GTi boot, GTi clocks as my lcd mileage was screwed, glovebox, fog lights
Ran an ecu check using the Torque app for android and an ELM 327 bluetooth obd2 from eBay- get one they're handy.
Found out my coolant sensor was dead, from many google searches and common symptoms of starting and running etc, so ordered a new one along with some g12+
Sanded the crap off the sideskirts and put it in temp primer while we had that gorgeously sunny april -.-
Also bought a new clutch at some point which will be in eventually...

Got a good project going to keep you busy! I am in the same position as you just bought a 1.0 and had to get a friend to drive it back.
also mine hasent got central locking so let me know how you go on with the wireing ime going to order the same kit youve got

anyway i wanted to know if the gti clocks are a straight swap?

Definately recommend a rightclick (rclick.co.uk) kit, whether you want an alarm or whatever is up to you, but they are great kits- make sure you get the remote locking central locking kit - i suggest you wire it starting on driver side as the wires are quite short for driver area.
Wiring is easy as it has all the diagrams etc, indicators are a little tricky but you can go either under steering column or to hazard switch (green+black, green+yellow?) screws, mounts all come with it

GTi clocks are straight swap, you need the top cover aswell though
Also if you want the temperature reading to work, youll need a temp sensor from a gti, that sits near driver side headlight, its plug and play from what ive been told?

Also ill be getting pics up in next few days, my mum borrowed the camera with all the pics on it haha :p
Ill get some more soon as well, in the process of gloss blacking center console+fan surrounds but not being the best sprayer in the world its not fun :p

i think ime going to spray my interior handles because i carnt find ANY online :@ so i might do some bits on the dash to match.

carnt wait to see some pics see how its all turned out !

Been working awkward shifts, so not much time for the car tbh which makes me sad :'(

Bought coilovers recently also, but its been sat on my street on 3 wheels. As we couldnt get the top mounts off the old springs, so I ordered new ones, but they dont come with the top nut
I was supposed to take it to a local garage today to borrow an impact wrench, but due to pretty bad illness the past 2 days I've been stuck in bed attempting to sleep and recover.
I've got a holiday from work coming up in a few weeks so I'll really make a push on the car

Coilovers are now all on

My extra surprise for you guys are these:


Sadly the center bore is like 1mm ish too small, so i had to drill that to get it on, but i think ill take the rest to a shop to do it

Car is finally on the road.... not quite sure what I have been doing the past year to be honest :/
But, I'm now insured, taxed and MOT'd as of yesterday, so actual progress can be made on getting body/spraywork done, interior cloths and audio setup!
New seats a while ago, probably will get them trimmed though;


This week coming I need to:
165/50/15 or 165/45/15 all round for the Borbets
Visit some spray and body shops and see what my best options are
Visit an audio repair place to get touchscreen headunit fixed, works perfectly except the sound seems to be dead :/
Clean all the junk out of it!
Find some leccy window doors.
Get some screws that I seem to have misplaced... and fit them to bumpers etc!

Anyways, expect some progress fo real this time

-Managed to get my headlining done today, with some help
Black suede may be an overdone copycat mod, but that is definitely for a reason! I'll be sure to get some pics up tomorrow.
-Fitted the flat center caps to the borbets, really changes their whole look; I was really surprised tbh

Getting my rclick keys cut and transponders made up this week too. FYI don't try and get them cut in a normal key shop, as HU66 require specialist laser cutters! good job the replacement blades are less than £3 haha
I recommend a local security/alarm fitting type shop.

Next on the list;
-Tyres 165/45/15 or 165/50/15
-More lows
-Bodywork; smooth bumpers, smooth doors/rear quarters
-GTi brake setup

Also I'm wondering about the grab handles etc; obviously the plastics can be sprayed but how would I recolor the sun visors?
I'm aware everyone gets black from Lupo GTi(?), however in my opinion thats a little boring; even if it is the easiest/best solution?

If anyone is wondering; the trim took around 2-2.5 hours out and in, replacing it was by far the most annoying part, gluing it down was fun

Little bit more progress recently, now have front speakers wired in, running from an amp in the boot
Oh and got my headunit back after being repaired. I think I want to do a tablet install eventually though, so much more functionality i.e GPS/satnav, Browser, music, movies n all that jazz for around 3-400 quid plus DIY materials.
Also got my tyres sorted, now running 165/50/15 and the ride has improved surprisingly, far less bouncy/spongey and only feel the road a bit more which is decent.
Started fiberglassing my front bumper rubstrip out too, which I know is advised against however I've read into it a bit and many people have successfully ran fiberglassed plastic panels for thousands of miles with no issues, so I decided to go for it
