Diesel 1.4 Info please.

Hi All. Newbie here.

Going to view a Polo 1.4 TDi this weekend on an 09 plate on 39k at £7k - fair price? Due to doing more miles I am selling my pride and joy Renaultsport Clio 182 to fund it, but don't want to regret it so would like some much needed info before I make the change.

Firstly, - How big is this shape Polo's tank? ie. How much will it cost me to fill from the light being on? My clio takes 40 liters therfore taking £60ish.
- How many miles can I get off said tank, no one off high figures, but an everyday town driving, bit of dual carriageway driving? Will I see over 500 miles without having to drive too slow?
- Am I right in thinking they are £30 a year to tax?
- what are servicing costs, general maintenance costs like?

Any help from diesel owners would be much appriciated, as I dont want to buy one and wish I hadn't!

Thanks in advance.

Jordi.

Get the 1.9 by the sounds of it you want something cheaper on fuel but still as fast has the Clio? Get a 130hp 1.9 derv map it then that's 180hp with average of 400 mile to tank can get over 500 at push. Cost about £55 to fill up.

Seconded. As great as the 1.4 is, by the sound of your last car you'll miss that 4th cylinder. Drive them the same and there will be a slight difference in mpg, but if you want to give it the beans then the 1.9 will make you smile, with better gains if you decide to map it or upgrade bits. On the other hand the 1.4 will be less to tax and insure (very very important for young drivers) but coming from a clio sport 182, either the 1.4 or the 1.9 will be a miracle when the V11 comes around :P

Compare the figures of the 1.4 and 1.9 on autotrader, see the specifications and decide which ones mean the most to you. For each engine there are models with two outputs:

1.4 - 70 and 80bhp
1.9 - 100 and 130bhp

Thought of the Ibiza 1.9 but to be honest it's more to insure and more to tax, so kind of defeats to object of saving money. As slow as the 1.4 was, it's just the way it is. Do you say over 450 miles to a tank week in week out is more than reasonable?
