has anyone heard this from a VW dealer?

my polo 1.2TSI was standing for a week and a half in a garage, while I was doing some work on my classic Morris, when I was ready on saturday I went back to bring the polo, turned the key and 0 , all lights go dim, a tick and no start, dead battery! strange! as I left cars for longer but they start, Jump started the car with jump leads and off i went home , left it in the garage for 2 nights, forgot the key in ignition, went this morning to start, the display didn't even come on when I opened the door and the boot couldn't open! called VW and told me to bring the car in, was told it needs a software update, what the hell is this? car is only 2 months old and already need software updating?

I had a dead battery there last weekend but never took much notice. It was just there on Sunday that I notice the computer was black and it was showing that I had no petrol either :s All is working fine now though?

Hi,

Just from my knowledge I know that these cars should NEVER be started with booster cables. Too many electronics.

But I do understand the situation you were in and your car would not start.... so how else you could have started it, maybe someone else can answer.

yes i know that's what he told me! he told me i should get a trinkle charger? (WTF is that?)

how long was your car standing Neil when you found the dead battery? my car is only 2 and a half months old with 500km and was standing bout a week and a half! everything seems fine now I'm going to leave it standing 2 more days and see as they don't seem to know how to update the software!! He told me you have to leave the car for 2 hours as it can give us problems to update!

I think you mean a trickle charger

I have one for my weekend car. It's very good, just plug it into a 12 volt socket, plug the other end into the mains and leave it, and it will keep the battery constantly charged but not damage it. I've left the car over 4 weeks and it's been fine once I started using a trickle charger. Cost £190, but you can probably get them a bit cheaper :)

Thanks for that! :D I'll look for one

I still think a battery shouldn't go flat in 2 weeks standing, my other cars usually do far more long time, tho they are a Morris Minor , an MG MEtro and an MG TF which neither of them think use as much power as the Polo.

K VW told me that the car might have circuits still operating when the vehicle is not in use that's y it's needs a software update , I really don't think it needs it. I left the car since tuesday not started it once, started first time today tho! but anyway it's going in tomorrow morning!
