Central locking help please :(

Hey all, I've just got a 02 polo i have no idea about cars but I hope some1 can make sense of my problem 
I can't lock my car from the key fob and when I try and lockmy car with the button on the drivers door inside the passenger lock goes down and pops back up? Any advice would be greatly appreciated xxx
