a garage or book. u cnt write down how to change a clutch up here. twill take time and space.

well i was thinking of maybe a haynes manual but..... well hang on, i'll just start a new topic (in the mkV polo forum) about the haynes manual cos i have some other questions too.

it's a major job - i can't help you because i chickened out and took it to a garage. it's probably more of a "showing" than a "telling" experience to learn.
£180 on a mk3 at an independent garage though, and the part costing maybe £50 - it depends how flush you are to do a mk5.

basically raise the car and disconnect all lincages and cluch equipment then the drive shafts in the ineer end. then support the engine and the gear box on 2 seperate stands and then seperate the engine and box. i warn you they are heavy when your basically benchpressing it. if the drive shafts are in the way try tying them up with string or remove the ball joint retaining bolts on the bottom arm then youll have some space. NOTE do not let the weight of the engine or box rest on the transfer shaft
and in true haynes style refitting is a simple matter ot revering the removal and i suggest a new cluch cable and a greacing of the pedal.

remember to bed it in too.

i'll back polo2k up on this one... unless you have beefy arms have either a strong mate or some kind of mechanical assistance in getting the box off, even if it's a set of axle stands or something. It's heavy enough just to carry in the crooks of your arms against your chest, you might make 25 yards before breaking a major sweat. Not the kind of weight you want to be trying to move gently and accurately whilst also having to support it.
