Power steering failure?

I was practicing some parking for my driving test which is coming up and on several occasions the power steering failed. After switching the engine off and on again it worked again but this happened a few times while parking and driving slow.
The manual says as long as it works after the car is reset then there's no problem but I wanted to check anyway. It's also very hot today so I don't know whether that has any relevance.
Thanks

You may just need to top up the power steering fluid but this should e a closed circuit so not sure how you would loose any.

I think it you look on the right hand side as your looking at the car at the front but down low near the headlight there is a green cap that is the pump and reservoir, think it may have a dip stick in the lid. Although i would get vw to take a look especially with it being safety related!!!!!

Thanks I see that now but it's not possible to get to it. I'll have to take it in

Did you get this sorted? I took my car in to vw for the drivers door to be adjusted and ended up with a new powersteering pump as they said when they got init to drive it into the workshop it wasn't working!!!! yet it has been fine since i bought the car up until they got in it to drive! They put their master technician on the job who said that the pump was full of water and heavily corroded

I enquired how has it got like that in a short space of time? He said maybe it came like that from factory. I personally think it maybe a sneeky recall

I know what happens in dealerships as i work in one

Took her in for a door adjustment, steering had been fine since march, parked up and waited for my car about half hour later the service reception guy came out and said god news your door has been sorted but the bad news is you need a new power steering pump, as when the technician got in it the steering wasn't working wtf your joking arnt you? No we have done checks on it and it is only pulling 3 amp when it should be 11amp.
When i went to collect her they had their master tech on the job and apparently the pump was full of water

Im not overly convinced as i work in a main dealer and know what smoke and mirrors they tell customers when their is a sneeky recall??

Very strange. But what can you do if it's a sneaky recall? Nothing... I'll see what they say to me if I have to take it in!
