Hi, recently my girlfriends polo 6N2 1.4 diesel turbo has had some starting trouble. There were 2 distinct symptoms.
symptom 1; car would turnover, start, hit about 1000rpm then cut out. Ive cured this, it was the immobiliser chip, a previous owner had taken it from the key and taped it to the ignition barrel, no bother since.

Symptom 2; car would start fine with a cold engine, go for a drive to get it up to temp, turn it off then it wont start again for at least 45 min until the engine is colder.
However now it wont start at all!

After some fiddling on the driveway i've found the following;

No fuel flow to the high pressure pump.
Lift pump, (pump in tank), which normally comes on with ignition is not coming on at all.
Fuses are fine, i removed relay 167 and tested it by triggering the coil on the battery and watching the contacts open and close with my multimeter.
Ive got voltage at fuse, which is switched from the ignition,
therefore fuse, relay, switch, and pump are all in good nick, what else could it be????

Ive looked for a haynes wiring diagram, but this model isnt covered and the one that i thought might cover it is no good as the diagram does'nt look at fuel system at all.

Ive traced some wires and i believe there must be another component in the engine bay that is open circuit, its a red wire with a blue stripe up to the multiplug near the relays (green plug), and as best i can tell red with a white stripe from there to the engine bay.

Anyone else had this problem or have a wiring diagram or know of any other components???

all help greatfully received,
