Question about converting 1.0 to 1.6

I've had my 1.0 for a bit now and just wondering, because I haven't really got alot of experience in engine conversions but is it actually possible to fit the 6n2 GTI engine straight into a 1.0?
Because I've seen both engines are they pretty much look the same, but I could be wishful thinking.
Anyone actually achieved this?
Cheers

It's been done before but after upgrading your brakes manual labour time given etc it would be so much cheaper to just buy a GTi

As just been said, been done loads of times but if your paying someone to do it, cheaper buying gti. if your doing it yourself, best way is to buy crashed gti as doner car, then use all the parts you need then sell rest on to claw some money back. you will have to change engine, box, entire wiring harness, ecu and immobilisor box and take chip from gti key, clocks, brakes and hubs and rear axle. entire interior and dash with heater box out to change harness. its a bit of work to say the least, I changed mine from a 1.4 8v to gti but also done it with 6 speed box, and that was more stuff to change on top of what I mentioned.

Unfortunately your rear brakes would be drums and providing youd like to actually be able to stop the car you'd need the disc conversion then to upgrade your front discs wiring looms I think the mounts may be slightly different too if this is the route you want to take I'd honestly save and just buy a GTi

Its just a bit work, first pic mine as bought, 1.4 8v match
last pic 1.6 gti, 6 speed box and full leather, 256 front brakes but still on rear drums at mo.
time start to finish 9 weeks.

Ahh If I had an idea of how this could be done or Someone that could do it I'd pay them!
Insurance on a 1.6 is insane atm, plus i'd beable to keep my little ''1.0'' for a while :/

Or just buy a good working GTI and switch over EVERYTHING, OR the Vin number
