Price on 1st-2nd Gear Synchro?

Think my car is coming down with the "common" fault of the first to second gear synchromesh being on its way out, at least I hear it is common on the earlier 9n3 GTi's, mines a 56 plate (Feb 2007).
How much am I looking at to get this sorted?, only seems to happen at higher revs, higher the revs - bigger the crunch
All other gears are fine, just first to second having some issues
Cheers

No-one any ideas? Someone must have got this repaired before?
is it more worthwhile going down the road of changing to a 6-speed gearbox? Or is that just more hasstle?

I'm sure i saw a post once saying it was in the region of £1200.
On that basis it's cheaper to go six speed if you're doing the work yourself.

Any ideas what gearbox I should be looking out for mate?
Is the Gold 1.8T a 6-speed? Or more along the lines of S3 ect?

Both of those gearboxes are know as the 02M and are to big to fit (i think)
You'll need an 02S which looks like our 5 speed with a bit on the end for the extra gear. Look through my build thread to see images.
Can be found in an Audi A3 2.0 FSI non turbo and Golf 2.0 FSI non turbo
If you get pics of any you think are the one i can confirm.

Before you do this try swapping the gearbox oil for redline mt90 as this will probably fix it.

My wifes polo was having problems with 2nd a couple of years ago, swapped the oil for this and hey presto its been perfect since. The crunching with these earlier boxes is due to vw putting the wrong oil in originally.

Sounds promising! Thanks for the info, fingers crossed it may be a hell of a lot cheaper than expected!
Thanks, will report back in a few days when I can get some of that oil
Anyone know how many litres I need for a 9n3 GTi?

Cheers, Picking up 3 bottles up of Red Line MTL (Didn't go for MT90 as I have been reading up on it and MTL seems to be the one people go for on a GTi, apparently MT90 is for older engines.. Golf Mk4 ect) today from Demon Tweeks and its going in the Garage monday for a Full service and gearbox oil change
Will report back Tuesday with good news hopefully!

Seems very smooth so far mate, not gunned it yet as i'm just letting everything wear in a bit
But yes so far so good!
Major thank you for your suggestion mate, I think that has cracked it. Done about 50 miles so far and it just seems all the more smoother, gears just mesh together nicely

Good to hear buddy - might also be worth resetting the linkages, my local garage does this annually and it freshens up the gear change (see video):

Hey there,
I am interested in changing the transmission oil in my car too. So is it the Red Line MTL 75/90W on the Demon Tweeks website, elsewhere online I kept seeing it as 70/90W and all this fully synthetic blah blah. Different sites say different things...so confused, please can you forward me the link exactly where you got yours from BennoGTi. Thanks brooo.
