Simple thread :)

I did my Cambelt and water pump today, so that's out the way and don't have to worry about it during the time I will own the car. Next up is brakes and suspension 8) Oh and my rattley dash, has anyone ever had this before? Seems to be from pedal area, very annoying!

How easy is the belt to do?

Any special tools required?

Pretty easy if you know what you are doing, once the engine mount is out of the way everything is dead easy to get to. You need one of these for the tensioner, and something like a 6mm drill bit as well. The tensioner is a bit confusing at first though, but once you work out how to get it right it's easy. Only the second 1.8t belt I've done and only took me about 3 hours taking it it nice and slow

Trying to find out where my annoying rattle was coming from, pretty sure I've fixed it...but turns out I didn't need to take off as much as I did...oh well :D

Hey Dom, how did you get the centre console out so neatly? Ive got a rattle coming from beneath the cubby area and am dying to sort it out!

The main bit around the stereo? Stereo out, pop out the ESP, Hazard switches and unplug them, take out the top cubby box and theres 2x torx bits, pop out the card holder bit and there's another torx at the back of that. The bit around the heater controls just pops off but be careful as it's the most fragile part, there's two more torx behind that, then it should just pull forward!

My driver's side wing mirror glass was separating from its heating element and flapping while driving (I pulled over and ripped it off before it did so itself and potentially damaged paintwork further back), reading a bit online I found out that with mirror glass you need to be careful what adhesives you use since some contain chemicals which corrode the mirror backing, I found that silicone stuff they use to stick fish tanks together would work and it did :D £6 Job done.

I know I could've bought another glass off eBay for the same price as the glue but chances are it wouldn't be OEM and/or have the anti-blind-spot convex bit on the outer edge.

As for the dash rattle TomG has, so have I in exactly the same place, drives me mental! I found that if I press down on the flow-control wheel next to the vent it stops! Usually only happens on colder mornings and on certain road surfaces, still bugs the hell out of me, I'd like to take out my centre console like you have Dom, but I don't know my Radio code for when i put it back together >.< Any reliable free radio code software out there?

You shouldn't need the radio code! I unplugged mine and when I plugged it back it in asked for the code (which I don't have) so I unplugged it and plugged it back in with the engine running and it fired straight up, I think it learns the code from the ECU :) Any audio place should be able to decode the stereo though, which is always a wiser option in case it doesn't work, lol

Brilliant, that would explain why my radio fired back up a while back after fitting ipod connectivity. I just assumed I was very lucky because I only unplugged it for 5 seconds :D

So long as it's the original radio then you don't need the radio code for it - just plug it back in. Something about it twinning with the ECU when it's brand new... Doesn't work with replacement units so be careful!
