knew i should have paid a bit more attention when the AA was with me on friday morning. My 'stat' collapsed and I had no tools to remove it when I was over heating. (The joys of having an MGB years ago - teaches you a lot about cars !)

Check the bottom radiator hose is a warm as the top hose (The bottom hose sort of goes to the side of the engine.) You may have the same issue as we where the 'stt' is on it;s way out and may be blocking th eflow of cold water. They're only about £7 from Eurocarparts.

You are right that you can bridge the fan to test it though mine wasn't working till I removed the 'stat' as the sensor was not getting triggered.

IIRC the connector to test the fan plugs in near the left hand side headlight. Take it off and bridge the terminals. I'd check it for you now but my cars in getting the HG pressure tested and the 'stat' replaced. I'd do it myself but a) haven't got time and b) it's what a warranty is used for.

I live in Higher Bebington... but usually found all around UK and Europe with my job. I usually drive my Celica at weekends the Polo is my daily runaround and can be left in airport car parks as it's harder for people to dent it..
