Hello all, does anyone know what the difference is between a D and an Sdi engine on a Polo MkIII? Aove all concerning the gearbox...
Thanks in advance!

Im not sure what you are asking
I guess you are actually referring to a 6n or 6n2 polo as this would be more likely
They have the same gearbox - just slightly different ratios
What are you meaning by D?

Sorry, I realise how vague what I asked is...
To be more precise, I'm looking for a reconditionned gearbox for a 15 year old Polo which, judging by the specs, is a 6n.
I'm in France and so the main denominations used are D (e.g. Polo III 1.9D for a 6n) and Sdi for a more recent model (construction began in 1998 I think...so probably an Sdi).
I haven't been able to find any precise info by using google. So to keep it simple, would I be able to use a gearbox taken from a 6n2 in a 6n? Or is there some kind of conversion or change that needs to be done? I'm a bit ignorant mechanics wise, so sorry for that...
Thanks!

You could use an SDI gearbox on a D 6n as they are the same.
However, if your current gearbox is rod shift as opposed to cable shift, youll need a rod shift box.
The SDI was just a more modern name for the older D engine - same block newer branding.

Wow, I thought that it would be far more complicated than that...
Thank you for helping me out! Have a merry christmas and all!
