Anyone near aberdeen with a GTI

A bit of a strange post but I am looking for anyone in/around Aberdeen with a 9n3 GTI who could take me for a 2 minute spin and then jump in my car for 2 minutes.

I have a loud whining noise in first and later gears but Arnold Clark have told me its normal and to basically gtfo, a guy in work who knows a little about cars has told me he thinks its normal too but I am 100% sure something is wrong.

So basically ... is there anyone close by that can help put my mind at rest?

Its a 2006.

Arnold Clark are claiming they have changed out the barings but the noise is still there ... so I doubt they did!

I'm sure there's a gearbox syncro thread on here

Something to do with the early gti there was problems with the gearbox syncro's

Yeah I read that one earlier.

That is crunching and not going into gear properly though, this is a strange whining noise that is really bad in first and more of an annoyance in later gears.

really? :\

I mean intrusively loud though, I am embarrassed to accelerate past like 2k in first.

I also noticed today that if I get to about 4/5k rpm in 2nd and then change to 5th it crunches on the way in. I presume that isn't normal?

Skipping 3 gears isnt ideal.

Whine i wouldnt worry about. Any crunch between gears would concern me more.

I would also get the gearbox oil changed as a matter of course.

The oil was changed by Arnold Clark under warranty which made no difference and then they replaced the bearings so oil again and still no difference :(

do you know they changed the oil for sure?

id do it yourself or get someone reputable. oil should cost under £15 from vw too as i had mine done at its last service

You need to use a proper syncro oil which is the correct weight - see this thread: http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 43&t=57265

Yeah, I went in before and the car was up on ramps with the gearbox out.

I had it inspected by a proper mechanic at the weekend and he said the gearbox is fked, its now leaking oil and they burst the boot (he pointed it out when it was on the ramps, its the black thing that connects to he back of the wheel/hub/disk not too sure how to describe it) and instead of replacing it have put sealant on, which has now burst again.

I am going back tomorrow night with the father in law and the mechanics notes to either make them fix it or give me my money back.
