New Brakes at 20k?

Just before the second service I had a bit of a wobble coming through the steering wheel under breaking. I was pretty much on 20 thousand miles so I waited a week then reported it when I booked it in. Sure enough the diagnosis was new discs and pads. Now its a bit catch 22 The only way to cure it would have been new discs fair enough but looking at the pads last week they had loads left on them and I cant see the discs almost two years old being so badly worn.
The garage wouldn't help (although they did give me 10% off and did the AC for free AGAIN) as its a wear and tear issue not warranty and the disc were "corroded"
I got the discs back and am going to get a few opinions on them, I also intend to speak to VW service but pissing in the wind springs to mind. It kind of annoys me more because the Mini needed discs and pads at 18k and they said that was normal. Didn't think I would be in the same situation with the Polo still fuel and taxes aside £200 and a set of winters is all its cost me in 2 years so not bad.
