My Polo GTI Build Thread **Pic Heavy**

Right so here goes,

I've been on here a while now but have never made a build thread, i have one on a local forum to me so i have copied and pasted most of it so hope it makes sense.

Not much is going to happen with it for a while as i've got to pull some money back, but still will be doing things here and there.

I on purposely bought an unmolested one instead of a ready modded one to save on the hassles of things not being done properly.

So here she is the day I picked her up.

Image

Sorry that's the only picture I have at the minute.

Now for some reason the last owner painted the badges white and it looked shockingly done so here's for first mod.

Looked like this:

Image

Stripped back:

Image

And finished:

Image

Received some goodies:

A piper cross panel filter
Image

And a forge 007p dump valve
Image

The car was then remapped and had a Miltek cat back fitted just after I fitted the DV and filter.

See the results below.

Image

Image

Had a massive gain in torque so very happy with it considering I wanted to get rid as it was to slow.

Then the coil packs failed so replaced them. (sorry no pictures of this)

After that I found a coolant leak on the radiator so it was time to replace that as well. It was an absolute pig of a job so didn't take many photos.

Old radiator out.

Image

looks like its been wrote off :(.

Image

Image

And new one going in.

Image

That's it for the rad.

Next up we're the rear brake discs and pads.

From this,

Image

The discs had a lip about an inch in from the edge which came up as a MOT advisory and the pads had a mm left if that.

To this,

Image

All shiny and new. Sorry I forgot to take a picture with the wheel off, but I was pretty fed up after the 5 hours it took to do them due to seized bolts.

I have fitted a Forge TIP,

Image

Hand for scale only :)

Image

Compared to original

Image

And in process…

Car is also in for its MOT today so hopefull should pass

Got a pair of numberplate holders

Image

Right so more pieces of the puzzle have turned up..

Image

Forge intake pipe, honey comb lower grills and bonnet lifters.

Before honey comb grills

Image

And after

Image

Before intake hose

Image

And after... Also a black coolant cap in there too.

Image

Image

I can't fit the lifters just yet as I need some brackets making up,

I have also fitted a milltek sports cat down pipe (hence why the car is on ramps in one picture) however forget to get photos.

And also just recieved these...

Coilovers and 16" Schmidt modernlines in wet anthracite, 9" rears and 7" fronts both Et 15. Had to raise the front up a it was scrubbing everywhere so may get some more stretch on and see how that goes.

Looking great and new turbo upgrade sounds awesome.
I can't help but notice no mention of upgraded rods?
If the engine is to remain stock you'll never be able to use the full potential of the new turbo.
This is just an observation and it maybe that you are having these uprated but thought it would be worth while mentioning.

All the very best with the conversion and Ill be keeping an eye on this.

Well my original plan was to build up the engine first then do the turbo. But with the turbo failing it made sense to do it now even if it does have to be restricted some what :)

Not much really, just paid the deposit to confirm the booking, just over 2.5k :? and ordered a decat downpipe.

Would love to fit it all myself but i just dont have the room or time anymore (the missus has banned me from working on it to an extent lol)

Yep, and there still with me. I love them and the look but need some different wheels that look more "race car" :D like compomotive M06's

Also small update,

I had the privilege of changing my console bushes to cupra ones  using this guide http://www.seatcupra.net/forums/showthread.php?t=306624

first side took me a little over 4 hours, second side just shy of 2, not to bad going I thought :D

Should be an exciting build :D ... I hope your rods dont give out first though!
How come you didnt go with polly bushes and do the rest while the fronts were off? 6 hours to do 2 bushes  I did my whole car in that time lol what were you doing XD

They are the same bonnet struts as I had, the JOM ones I think...

Well they said its not impossible to bend a rod but avoid standing starts etc and should hold up, but i will be doing my internals anyway :)

There polo 9n ones off the bay but you will need some 90 degree brackets making up to fit them, i haven't actually fitted mine yet but have had the brackets made.

Same here, Ive just got to be sensible until i have them done.

Well poly bushes were twice the price and i don't mind it being stiff :D I only did them as they came up on the MOT, i will be doing the rest eventually. Felt like they took forever and a year to do them but i do like to just stand around and stare for a while and where i work on my car is chalk ground covered in rocks and no shelter from the rain/wind/cold so less than adequate to say the least lol :)
