Hello I am having problem with my polo gti. When I travel above 40mph the is a loud noise coming from the front of the car when travelling at 70mph it does become very loud and can hardly hear radio. I have no decrease in performance and it does not matter what rpm or gear I am in just after 40mph the noise beings and it gets louder.
No idea what it could be no holes in manifold car is stock apart from stage one map. Just been serviced but noise is still there?

With bad wheel bearings I would have thought that the car should have failed the mot? Or is it not a requirement for cars?
What is the process to check if they are alright?

I not sure about the mot but to check jack the car up put your hands in the wheel at 6 o'clock push top to bottom looking for movement, same again at quarter to 3 then spin wheel and listed for a whiring or similar but don't get confused if you brake discs make a bit of a rubbing noise

Jack it up and rock the wheel left and right, or spin it to listen for grinding noises or roughness as it rotates. I had the same problem - the car rumbled loudly at 40mph and 80mph with almost no excessive noise in between those speeds, I didn't do the tests I just had the wheel bearing changed and it sorted it.

could also be a bad tyre, they make the same sort of noise as wheel bearings when theyre ever so slightly out of shape
