Hello Polo gti owners!

I'm about to get my self a Polo gti 13 plate. I am going to see it tomorrow and negotiate price and test drive etc etc and assuming there isn't something really wrong with it will probably purchase to collect next week.

It's my first 'sports' car and I was wondering if you had any tips for general day to day maintenance and/or any issues that have come up in previous polo gti's in this shape. I am aware of the oil issue and this is why I am sticking to Polo's 2012 and newer as I have read they modified the engine to remedy the oil and subsequent engine issues.

Hopefully I can pick this one up as it is a 13 plate with a good sticker price that I should be able to haggle down and has almost the full 3 years warranty.

Look forward to your responses. Can't wait to get the car!!!!! :D

Hi

Picking it up next wednesday! Can't wait. Its a 13 plate with 2700 miles and it cost £17000. Best priced one I saw. There were 12/62 plates that were over this price with higher miles.

Any tips for long term maintenance. Want to keep this in good health for life...

Sounds good.
Make sure you use Super Unleaded whenever possible. The mpg improves to more than cover the cost and imho it runs a bit smoother/quieter. Other than that it's been a doodle to run, got my 5dr in April.

Out of curiosity what mpg are you getting. I appreciate that driving style is crucial (ie if u thrash it ur mpg is rubbish) but when driving "normally" what numbers have u been getting? Ive been reading people getting 40+ which is pretty good. I'd be happy with 35+ day to day i think.

Mid 30s but its all urban short journeys. Its nudged over 42 occasionally but I've not had a long run in it yet. 4mpg or so extra on super unleaded I reckon.

Sounds about right to be honest. I think given I won't be doing that many miles it should be okay. Mid 30s is acceptable given I'm coming from a golf 1.6tdi dsg which is giving mid 40s around town!

Thanks for your help.

Yes - mid 30's easily acheievable. On a run motorway run yesterday it was indicating 48mpg but it was constant 70mph and no harsh acceleration.

The MFD display is always slightly optimistic but gives a good guideline. Enjoy the car!
