As subject: EPC Light on. Error code 16492. Oil in throttle body and in air box
Its a MKIII Facelift (6n2)
Engine code: ALD
I don't know what the problem is. I cleared the code as the car is running and the car goes to die but the EPC light comes back on and car runs grand again. Idles rough at about 500 revs. It has cut out a good few times while idling at lights.
Any help would be appreciated
Regards
Dean

Thoroughly clean the throttle body and airbox with a carb/intake cleaner such as wynns intake cleaner from Halfords
Also check the breather is clear
For reference, your car is referred to as a Mk5 on these forums.

Oh thanks I just go by what the car is on manufacturers. There is some yellow gunk in the breather pipe. I will take it all apart tomorrow and clean it all out.
Might change spark plugs while I'm at it and maybe spark leads
Thanks for the advice.

By VWs level its a Mk3F, but as there was a mk1, a mk2, mk2f, mk3 and mk3f, the mk2f ultimately became the mk3, the mk3 became the mk4 and the mk3f became the mk5 from an enthusiasts perspective
You could do - cleaning it all out should fix your problem though
Also check for a split brake servo hose as this is common.

Ah right haha now I get it.
Which hose is the brake servo hose?
And also I was wondering what the little cylinder plastic thing is with two hoses going into it at the front left behind the headlight. It has two hoses going in. The two inlets say motor and one says tank?
One of the hoses is broke off it. I think its the motor one that is broke off.

It's the black hose behind the throttle body that goes into the big round back cylinder on the left. It's a rigid plastic hose
That's the carbon emissions canister. If one of the hose is broken it'll cause serious running problems. You'll need to get that sorted as soon as possible.

Fixed the canister but I have just removed the MAP sensor and had a look and seems to be a little bit of oil on it. Guessing that's a bad sign. Any recommendations to clean it?

No luck. Cleaned throttle body and is spotless. Took map sensor out and sprayed it with contact spray and cleaned it. Put it all back together and reset code but epc light come straight back on and error code 16492 back again. Idling much better now though.

You might have to clear it a couple of times - some faults are persistant
I would have another check around for leaks in hoses
Namely...
Brake servo hose
All hoses on airbox
PCV hose
Crankcase breather hose
All hoses going into throttle body
Carbon canister hoses
This is what Ross-Tech say about it below. I cant imagine its much that causing this problem.
16492/P0108 - Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) (G71) or Barometric Pressure (BARO) (F96): Signal High
Possible Symptoms
unknown
Possible Causes
Wiring and/or connections faulty (Short to Plus)
Leak in intake and/or exhaust
G71 and/or F96 faulty
Control Module faulty
Possible Solutions
Check wiring and connections
Check for leak in intake or exhaust
Check / Replace G71 and/or F96
Check / Replace Controle Module

Cheers for the help.
There is a flexible rubber hose goin down the left from the air box. That has tape around it looks like it may have a leak. But it doesn't seem to want to come off the bottom. Is this screwed on at the bottom or do I just have to pull harder. I fixed the canister tubes I think so that should be sorted.

Thats the crankcase breather - can you get a picture of this 'tape'
How did you 'fix' them out of curiosity?

How to I insert an image onto a message on this?
One of the spouts was broke half off so I put the hose back on the put a cable tie on it real tight. Wasn't broke that bad
