Engine Oil

Hi everyone, I'm going to do a full service and oil change on the car because looking at the service history it hasn't had one in over 10K, what I want to know is how much oil does the engine/sump take? There's no specific information in the manual. It's the 1.2 TDI CFWA engine.

if you go into the parts department at vw they will be able to tell and i think there's an offer on £30 for 5 litres

I will give them a call tomorrow although I think they maybe a bit funny, they were funny with me when I asked where the best ground point was inside the car, said that they couldn't tell me due to health and safety. :x is it Castrol Edge they use? I found 4 litres of it in Costco for £24.

Cheers, I will do, just need to find out how much I need, reading online, people usually fill up around 3 litres and then keep checking the dipstick whilst they add more oil. I may need to do that.

yea 3 litres would be a good starting point mind and let the oil settle and do it on level ground. putting more in is easy having to drain some back out is annoying

Aye it is, this is my first oil change too so don't want any mishaps, you don't know what socket the oil filter takes do you? I think it may be 32mm

might also be worth popping into your local vw and grabbing a new sump plug. When I worked at vw we always got a sump plug with the service kits
ps don't over tighten the sump plug on the alloy sumps it can damage the threads on the sump, think the correct torque is around 20ish nm so superman stuff ^_^

Ahhh my £80 service is going down the drain! :( going to have to buy a torque wrench too, I suppose it will be worth it as I enjoy doing a fair bit on the car.

I don't know if it had it or not, I bought it at 21K but when I asked them to print off a service certificate it said oil change at 10k but no other mention of another oil change, it's on time and distance, at 35k and 2 years old...

http://www.national.co.uk/oil-vehicle-search.aspx seems to be the cheapest at the moment

£38.70 for a full oil and filter change using Castrol Edge 5W30 Full Synthetic. Parts alone can easily cost more than that.

Nice find! Thanks for that, I think I'm better off just going to them and getting it done, I'll probably still buy an genuine oil filter and get them to fit it.
