Wife's new Polo Blue GT arrives (Long post - Pic heavy)

Hi all. On Saturday we picked up the wife's new Polo Blue GT, and an absolute cracker it is. We asked the supplying dealer not to prep it in anyway, and whilst a little dismayed, they stuck to their word and Whilst the car was dirty (having been in their compound for 3 weeks as we were on holiday), it was pretty much mark and swirl free, although the paintwork did feel like sandpaper :D

No before's I'm afraid as I only had the weekend to get it prepped and cleaned as well as carry out some modifications before the rain was due to arrive on Sunday afternoon.

Method

Power washed to remove as much muck as possible.

Snow foamed using AF foam and left to dwell for 15 minutes whist I worked it in with a detailing brush in the nooks and crannies.

Rinsed, then washed with TBM, using Megs shampoo. Car then rinsed and then clayed all over (including windows) using bilt hamer soft clay using Megs last touch as a lubricant.
Washed again and rinsed. Complete car and wheels coated with Iron-X which removed vast amounts of fall out. Rinsed, then sprayed with Tardis to remove transport sheet glue and various tar spots.
Car then finally washed again and dried with my big thick drying cloths.

Paintwork was inspected and to my surprise, it was in really good nick with no scratches or swirls at all.

Went over the car with AF Tripple on a foam applicator pad, then gave it coats of GTechniq C2V3 Liquid Crystal (including alloys which were removed to seal on the inner faces). Trim dressed with Aerospace 303, and tyres with megs endurance tyre gel. Finally windows cleaned with Autoglym Fast glass inside and out.

So, onto the pictures (sorry, got a bit carried away).

The keener eyed amongst you may have noticed the front standard slatted grill has also been replaced with the honeycombed "GTI" style one (wife's preference). I was supposed to also this weekend be fitting the front fog lights kit and chromed exhaust tailpipes, but the dealer screwed up on the parts and ordered bits for an SEL not a Blue GT, so that will have to wait until next weekend.

If you made it to the end and didn't fall asleep I salute you. Sorry for such a large post, but this is our third Polo in a row and by a huge margin the most impressive and gorgeous. Thanks.

Yes but on UK models, we also need to display KM/H, so the option for the large digital display isn't in the MFD set up by default. Setting it to the "Rest of the World", enables it and allows you to select any of the units (metric, UK imperial, US imperial), so setting back to UK imperial gives the digital display in MPH, and also allows an additional item in the menu of "Alt display units", which when ticked, puts the display back to how it was before the mod (so you can toggle between either of them).

Looks fantastic mate!! I love the colour and the alloys that come with the GT.

Just a quick question about the under storage trays!

Do you have the part number for these, and could they be fitted to a 1.2 TDI Match?

Cheers :)

I do have the parts numbers at home Greg, I'll get them for you tonight and post them up. I can't be 100% sure but as most polo's seat frames are the same,I guess on the front on yours you have a large fixed plastic infill piece ? Do you have Height adjustment ?

As for fitting them pretty easy really. unscrew all 4 torx bolts holding the seat in place, then with the key removed from the ignition (just in case), tilt the seat backwards do it rests on the rear seat. This lifts the underside of the seat upwards so that everything is accessible and no needs to mess about or remove any of the wiring plugs. Remove 2 screws and cut a cable tie holding the blank piece on, then remove the blank.

Remove the drawer from it's outer holder, offer this up (making sure you have the right side), and you will see where all the screws that hold it in place match up with holes in the seat underside. Think I remember there are 5 screws for each side (2 are at the back, and there is a circular cut out in the tray holder to get the screw though it and up to the seat base. When everythings screwed in (pretty self explanatory when you see it in person), slide the drawer in and snap shut.

Then reposition the seat and replace the Torx bolts and torque as required. Job done. Took me 40 minutes for the first side (when I didn't know what I was doing), and 20 minutes for the other side.

Thanks for that mate! Doesn't sound too difficult :)! Could do with a couple of more storage spaces and these look perfect!

At the moment I have a infill piece of plastic and I do have seat height adjustment.

Can you remember the price off the top of your head? :)

Cheers! 8)

Hey guys, whilst I've hopefully got some Blue GT owners attention, a question please that my wife has asked me to ask you. On your 3 door models, when you tilt the seat forward to get in the back, does the seat slide all the way forwards at the same time (easy entry), as they don't appear to slide on hers which means using the handle under the seat to slide them forwards which is a bit of a faff. Could it be the 2nd warranty claim ?

I they don't slide forward on mine making getting into the back a bit tricky, how do you change it into rest of the world?

Ah, so yours don't slide either - means ours probably are not broken. Can anyone else verify this ? Seems strange for a 3 door that the seats don't slide forward, as all our others Polo's did (including the 2011 SEL 6R we just traded in) ????

With regards to changing the instrumentation to the rest of the world, it's only something you can do if you have VCDS and the genuine cable (do you have this ?)

If so, just go into the instrument module (from memory [17] i think), hit coding, go long code helper. On the first byte screen, it will be set to UK (if it's a UK car you have). Click on the drop down, select "rest of the world" from the list, then click "do it". It's as simple as that. Then just change the units back to UK imperial using the settings screen on the main instrument MFD.

What version of VCDS software are you using to change to speedo to large MPH display and needle sweep.

I have a MY14 GTI and I am struggling to get this to work. Also where did you get the Bluetooth modual from and were the wires already installed or did you have to run the loom from the seat to the unit?
