Dodgy water pump and driving back to the UK from Germany

This is on my 6R GTI- On every journey I hear a squeak when accelerating at low speeds, especially in bends and on hills.
Right now I'm on holiday in Germany and the VW main dealer here has diagnosed a faulty water pump. As the guarantee over here is only 2 years I would have had to pay for part of the repair... I turned the work down and decided I'd get this done back in the UK, free of charge as my car is still under 3 years old and under guarantee in the UK.
I'm back on the 20th- just wondering if it should be ok and if it failed could it cause something catastrophic? Dealer says no- just reduced power to the supercharger. True?

The squeak is the supercharger clutch engaging. This is part of the water pump assembly.

If its just a noisy clutch mechanism then it shouldn't cause any problems.

If it is just a 'chirp' each time you accelerate them I am pretty sure there was a warranty fix issued for this. I had the same problems on my Cupra Ibiza.
