Just been rear ended, luckliy i was sheilded by another car from the direct impact but it's still made a mess of my bumper and rear offside quarter panel. Looking at the book price of these cars today i can't see how they'll fix her for less :(

Nightmare! It's gutting isn't it.
Do what i did and just buy back the car and use the money to fix it and make it better than before:-

what will happen if it's a write off? VW Notts have quoted 3k to fix it  so i assume the insurance company will offer me the value of the car instead.

can i have my car back too, surely it's mine still :?:

You have to buy the car back unfortunately, but it only cost me 10% of what they valued it at. Very cheap for an immaculate gti with a bruised bumper!
Then i had to pay £42 for 'VIC' (vehicle identity check) was pretty simple.

Have your/their insuers sent out someone to do an engineers report yet?

will this pass an MOT (only had one a few months back but assume i need another now  )

the obvious problem i can see from the photos is the wheel arch proximity to the wheel, it only scrubs slightly when i turn left at and accelerate around the turn. other than that it's the same car which passed + a nasty dent :x
