6n2 polo gearbox issues

Hi there,
I have a 6n2 1.4 16v (70,000 miles). Lately, I have been noticing a 'whirring' noise coming from the clutch when the clutch is engaged and on occassion when I'm driving along. After my dad driving it, we came to the conclusion that the clutch release bearing is knackered so it looks like a box out job.
Now to my actual question... I know the boxes on these cars are somewhat prone for needing an overhaul around 70-75K miles so I was thinking, whilst I've got the box out, is there anything in particular that makes sense to have done at the same time?
