Headlight issue

Post by Scotty-B »

Hi,

My GTi has an issue with illuminating the nearside headlight? I thought maybe an issue with the bulb so replaced the DS2s while upgrading my sidelights but its not helped.

When I flick the headlights on the light flickers on but then off again straight away and it takes a few attempts before it starts and stays on, once its on and staying on I have no problems with it.

Do I need a new ballast? Can anyone help/advise?

It's likely a bad bulb

You should only use genuine Phillips or osram D2S bulbs. The cheaper replacements are absolute rubbish

Hids4U.co.uk stock the OEM Phillips ones for a good price

If that doesn't fix it it'll be the ballast though that's rare to fail

Time for a new ballast then

They are used on a variety of cars. Search the hella part number on eBay - generally has a good stock as the TPS price for one is unthinkable.

Thinking on it,

I'll swap the bulbs off-to-nearside and see which appears to be tripping, the bulb or the lamp.

But yeah, its looking like I might need to look toward the ballast :(
