What lights do I use?

Hey guys and girls..

Just picked up my Polo R Line yesterday, and I'm wanting to change the yellowy lights to crips white :)

So just wanted to know what lights I would need!
I'm wanting to change:
Rear number plate lights
Interior dome lights (front and rear)
Side lights
Main beam lights
Dipped lights
And fog lights

If anyone could point me in the right direction I'll be very grateful!
Also if anybody has changed any of these lights already, could I please see some pictures with what lights you used (place you bought them, brand etc..) :)

Thanks a lot

Jamie

Hey Jamie.

I recently did this to my 1.2 tsi.

Do you know if you have the twin headlight system? Or the single headlight?

Once we know this, we can find out what bulbs you need.

In the meantime you can check out www.autobulbsdirect.co.uk which will give you a list of bulbs based by your number plate.

Hey there

I have a twin headlight system :)

Did you manage to get all the bulbs you need (inside and out) from that website?
Do you have any pictures of them fitted and switched on

Thank you for the reply!

The base spec Polos come with a H4 headlight system with Hi/Lo Beam in one bulb, pretty poor performance, verging on dangerous.

Polos from the Moda up come with twin beam headlights, a seperatw bulb for Hi/Lo, much better output than the H4 system and have the cool silver bar inside! :D

Yeah they are, it was only the S and Bluemotion models that got the crap ones! I had an S before the TDI and those light were verging on dangerous, I drove around with hi beams on all the time haha

Well when i typed in my plate, it asked what system i had and told me to use H4's for the twin system and H1's for the single.
However, this is incorrect.

If you have a single system, 1 pair of H4
If you have a twin system, its 2 pairs of H7's.

All the other bulbs are generally LED so easily obtainable from Ebay.

Beware with them though. The polo has a system which measures the current being drawen through the smaller halogen bulbs such as number plate bulbs, side lights and other bulbs.
If you get cheap LED's to replace the halogen, your dash will flag up saying you have a blown bulb.
Dont panic, you haven't.
Its just because LED's need much less current so the system recognises that and thinks theres a provblem.

If you want to replace with LED, get somes that say "error free" or "Canbus"
These should counteract the issue

Let me know how you get on.

Haha it's harder! Bi-Xenons use a halogen light for the flash function, when the Xenons aren't on to stop the ballast burning out. I'm thinking of getting the lookalike LED projectors that Nmavs has, original Bi-Xenons are too much hard work for me lol

Yeah around that mark, I actually don't like the angel eye! It's not just buying the Xenons though, it's buying another CCM/BCM (mines midline) getting some self levelling units for the suspension, a harness and then fitting and coding everything, right ball ache, I need to get my sill sorted instead of buying luxuries though! Mum used the car and mounted a high kerb without thinking what it would do to the sill :(
