I am in need of a service very soon and was thinking..

Do I pay VW £149 for them to do a service or do I do it all myself?

Any thoughts?

3. Pay a VW specialist indie just over half the price to do it :)

Being naive, where do I find one of them? Know any?

I would just google 'VAG specialist (your county)', then call around and get some ballpark figures. Shouldn't cost any more than £80-£90 for an oil change and possibly a visual check over the major components. While you're at it you may as well get the tracking done if they offer it. If you're still in warranty you should ask them to use genuine VW filters etc.

Alternatively you can find the part numbers for the filter/sump plug, buy them cheap on ebay (make sure to add 'genuine' to the search) along with the approved oil and try it yourself. You'll need access to a ramp or to buy axle stands so unless you plan on doing future changes by yourself it may be more cost effective just to send it to an indy.

Hope this helps.

i got the 30k of servicing for £199 on mine so main dealer for the routine and main warranty work, anything else i use an independent

i tend to keep cars 3 years or less and find main dealer stamp is what people ask for all be it in reality it means nothing as i find the index i use have a far better knowledge

if i was keeping longer indie all the way

Polo 6R is still quite new so its best to stick to VW servicing. £149 is pretty cheap anyway. Will make a difference when you sell it on as on a car of this calibre and value a stamped history will be expected.
