Hi all.

I am getting a RCD510 DAB very soon which does not come with an aerial.

Does anyone know if i HAVE to use a VW OEM aerial? Or can i use a standard £10 aerial from my local store.

Thanks!

Same frequencies so should work on the same aerial. Unless you are in a patchy area in which case you may need one with a higher gain/sensitivity/aplification. It's the way the data is broadcast & decoded which is handled by the head unit itself that differs from an FM signal. In exactly the same way that a Freeview telly can pick up a signal from a good old analogue TV aeriel.

Try it with the stock aerial and if it's not up to scratch upgrade but in a strong signal area you shouldn't have any issues.

When i install rcd510 or rns510 with dab radio, i use the antenna from a vw multivan, along with a extension cable also from vw..

Parts are about 100£.

I place the antenna on top of the glovebox.
