So after cleaning the beautiful candy white r line today,I was left gutted because there is so much tar on it!

My question is, what is the best product to use to remove it, and what's the best practise to remove it, snow foam, then tar and bug removal, them shampoo and so forth?

Use a claybar and a quick detailing spray as a lubricant for the claybar to move across your paintwork. Rub gently over the affected areas and you'll see the tar marks stick to the bar.

After claybar use a little polish to bring up the shine again and wax for protection.


In practice you should put on a good layer of wax and glaze (if you want that extra shine) before winter kicks in and apply a new layer every few weeks and especially inbetween washes. By doing this, its much easier to get rid of the tar marks.


**Avoid using tar and bug removal creams and sprays as they leave horrendous swirl marks afterwards.**

Autoglym intensive tar remover is one of the best for spot applications if it's really stubborn. Just don't rub it hard - let the tar soften to remove it.

A few examples of the kind of quality you can get by using the right solutions. This is on an 08 plate car.

I never knew what the clay bars were for but now I know I'll look into it!

Was meant to apply wax before winter but never got any in time I have some now though, will be sure to give it a thorough detail once I get a clay bar

Claying is very rewarding. Ive not clayed my red one yet jay because I'm still seeing the benefits of lifeshine. But I did clay my mum and dads xc90 that took a while...

Haha how many hours did it take you? My last clay session took about 4 hours but that was in the sun, not the best of weathers to do it in as it dries and leaves a nasty mark.

Took about three hours lol. Wasn't my own so wasn't the same haha

Lol proper effort! Mine needs doing, i had a look at mine after a wash and its full of black and brown tar spots!

Bilt hamber clay is quite good and only requires normal tap water not any fussy lubricant!

clay over it using clay bar..give it a nice polish straight after
