Hi Guys! Doew anybody know how to remove the gear shift knob from our 6rs? I tried to reach the clips by selecting 3rd gear and using my thumbs but without any luck.Should i use a trim removal tool? I'm afraid of braking any clips or scratching the silver trim at the base of the shift knob.

you can use a trim removal tool or an old store card to pry the trim around the gear sticks boot open. Once its out you can turn it inside out and lift it over the knob and you will then be able to undo the knob from underneath the leather.
Its a really easy job but removing the trim can be worrying as it often takes quite a bit of strength to get it to pop off.
Just be careful and take your time, should be fine

This is the usual way to disassemble but you have to be careful and watch carefully in the specific shape of your knob.
Examples: white Polo 6R, black Audi A1
The service manual does not provide a process for dismantling leather boot.

On the last photo, that's exactly the swap i'm trying to do.But polo's plastic ring even cracked a little bit .So i guess i'll order another gaiter in order to fit the a1 knob on it.

In this link you have another way to do it (Polo 6R-A1). Is the french forum and registration is required.

what is the swap you ar doing, can I see a photo of the kob as im looking to change mine again as I dont like it
also @ciclo be carfeul with the ring, mine could slide up by hand. If your going to use a screwdriver make sure you use it all the way around not just on one side or it can snap the plastic clips on the inside off

I'm trying to get rid of the standard knob and put on the knob from an A1.The best way to do it is the one shown in the French forum and it also requires a lot of time. But I've found out that if you choose to use a screwdriver to unclip the black plastic ring,it is very possible that you'll break something.

So,i've tried literally everything but i cannot get it done even with the ''French'' way without doing any damage.
So i'm trying to find the part number of the gaiter now.

I managed to finally separate the original knob from the leather and here are the results:
