Electrical gremlins

Hello all,

Newby here, brought my W-reg polo GTI back in December when I got it the central locking didn't work, pump runs but nothing happens so have to unlock to switch off alarm and unlock manually. Any ideas on a fix for this?
Also since buying the electric windows have stopped working, there is a slight click after pressing switch, and the switches them selves are fully laminated, any light to shed on this one? (Excuse the pun)
Done a few google searches and couldn't find any answers, any help would be great =D

Thanks for any help in advance,

Ross

Sounds like the wiring between the door and chassis has broken - quite common

Pull the rubber boot back and check for broken and splitting wires

Be sure to refit the rubber boot properly afterwards - it can only go on at one position as it locks into a groove.

thanks will look into it,
do you remove the boot on the chassis side? if so which way does it turn?

Best to get some wide grips and twist the boot chassis side clockwise. It comes off quite easily.

I had a similar issue and it turned out to be the door lock unit itself, where the air pipe meets the door lock.

You don't need to unplug it. Just pull the boot off from chassis side

Either crimp with straight through or bullet connectors or solder back together and tape up. The choice is yours

Right had the boots off wires all fine, and pump seems to be working fine, assuming issue now is behind door cards, what are they like to take off, straight forward or full of hidden clips?

There's 2 big screws behind the door handle which you get to by removing the top part of the grab handle. There's a little screw right at the front of the door card that can only be seen with the door wide open near the tweeter speaker. The rest is clips that'll pull away. Just be careful when lifting the door card up and away to giude the lock pin out and LED connector.

I'm speaking on behalf of a 3 door BTW, I assume a 5 door would be roughly the same. :?:
