Cam cover removal

Needs some cleaning and probably painting. Anything to be aware of? How is it sealed, gasket or some kind of silicone glue? Should i replace it?

What engine is your polo? If it's a 16V or GTI the rocker cover can only be removed by taking the cambelts off as the cams through through it
If it's other models I would still clean it in situ and paint it rather than remove it
