if i take them off will it mark the paint?

Shouldn't do. Will just leave some glue behind on the paintwork. Tcut can sort that out.

You are better off using tar remover for the glue. Remember that t-cut takes off paint.

When I worked in a body-shop those bloody rubber strips were the bane of my life, VW (in particular) used REALLY strong glue. I seem to remember using a product named 'Speedy 500' along with a filler spreader to get them off
