5w-30 or 5w-40?

Recently had a full service done on the ol' girl..
Ive heard that the car needs 5w-30 oil..
However on the receipt from the garage, it showed that they used 1ltr of 5w-40..
Im going to ask them about why they only used 1ltr when i paid for an oil change, but just wondering if the 30 or 40 makes a huge difference?

Thoughts?

Either will be fine.

5w/30 is used generally for fuel economy reasons, being thinner it means slightly more MPG. But l doubt you will notice the difference in economy.
Personally l would go with 5w/40 anyway.

What if they have just topped up my original oil with this new oil..
If the old oil was 5w-30 and they topped up with 5w-40..
Would that be a problem?

I've had a garage include a 4L oil bottle in the oil change price then charge for an extra 1L separately as my current car/engine takes 4.5litres...maybe just a poorly written invoice.

Fingers crossed it is because it only shows 1 quantity of 1ltr oil..

Hopefully they did forget to write it on the invoice

You were right - called them up "yeah it would have been a full oil change, just our system only has one type of oil within in, which comes up as 1ltr."
