Oil warning light issues (again!) after CL-GT clock convert.

Right. I listened to what you guys said, and allowed the car to run for 10 minutes or so before I revved it, I just touched 2000rpm, nothing stupid this time! But the oil warning light and buzzer came on. Bearing in mind this is another set of clocks, and its doing similar to the other GT clocks I tried, that leads me to believe its the car.
Upon first installing GT clocks and connecting the battery back up. I turned the key to the position where all warning lights come on. Instantly noticeable is the flashing fuel warning light, and flashing oil light. Once the fuel pump has primed, the fuel light goes out. The oil warning light continues to flash.
Starting the car, the light goes out. But it only occurred once this time- the oil warning light and buzzer came on. I thought maybe try the other set of clocks I have, and they did exactly the same, with the flashing oil warning light before starting the car.
My CL clocks had the oil light briefly come on, before starting the car, but that soon went out.
All this leads me to believe that the pressure switch has gone. If this is not the case, anything else I can try, as I really want GT clocks.
Thanks.
Karl.

Based on the handbrake being on, what lights (othe than the handbrake light) should come on before the car starts. And should the oil light flash?
Really hoping its just the switch, but any help or experience appreciated.

just to supply the results of the MSN convo I had with karl over this subject:
Possibly the "newer" CL clocks in his 93 work differently to the older (90, 91) items in my car, and what at least one of the GT units are.
My result on turning the key to IGN:
Battery and handbrake on constantly, temp light flashes a couple times then goes out, and oil light flashes continually.
On turning to START:
Oil light goes out almost immediately (when its a warm day - a couple seconds otherwise), battery light stays on for a second or two til the alternator regulator is into it's swing.
Quickly turning off then back to IGN (or, stalling it) - oil light comes back flashing after a couple seconds of staying dark.
Only had the warning buzzer once though - high revs into a sharp corner with oil level below "MIN", so i'd advise to check both the level, the sensor, and possibly the pump (find some other way of checking the pressure??) if it comes on again.
The continual flashing before starting isn't a problem, but any instance of the light more than a couple seconds after starting - and any instance of the buzzer
at all - warrants investigation.
Does this mean there's going to be another set of dials on the market now Karl?

I hope I won't have to go through three sets of GT clocks. The oil level is fine, up to the top of the notch (Max mark) on the dipstick. That leaves the pump and switch/sensor to try. My newly acquired Haynes manual doesn't however tell me where the switch is, or what you need to do to change it. I can assume that the switch is located on the right hand side (facing the front of the car) of the sump, as there is a wire leading to something there.
I will see either my local V dub dealer or Martyn about a switch (cheapest option first) before I have to borrow a jack and axel stands to take the sump off for the pump.
Thanks.

Its not the clocks I dont think unless something has gone wrong with them. I havent read all whats been said but have you checked your oil?
I had a set of polo genesis clocks from an L reg put in my J reg 1.3 CL. The wiring is slightly different, on later cars the temp gauge has a red section rather than a light on the row of lights. THe wiring for the oil system is the same. Are you 100% the clocks are off a GT anyway? There is a tiny difference between GT and genesis ones; The rev counter redline is at 6000 on a genesis set and 6500 on a GT set.
When the engine isnt running the oil loght is supposed to flash on and off, as is the temp light (on cars that have one it flashes for a few seconds and then goes out) along with the battery light (doesnt flash) and the handbrake light (if the handbrake is on).

They are GT clocks then, based on the redline. From whats been said they function normally at switch on then (maybe my CL ones were a wee bit different?). Its just the buzzer choosing to come on at different revs.
Thanks.

karl i don't think the oil should be at max mate, in the haynes manual it says between min and max.

Thinking about it, someone said that on later models of mk3 there is only one oil pressure sensor instead of two. But a GT having GT clocks which have the "one wire" circuit is very unlikely as most GTs seem to be H J and K reg. I think it might well be your car that has different wiring. I seem to remember it was you that has the wrong ECU for one of alans Chips (a late one) I would need to see a pic of your engine bay to be sure.

It is me who has the soldered type ECU. I wonder how to get around the wiring problem then, as it can be done on later models (theres that blue 1litre in the for sale section with GT clocks in on an L plate).
I was thinking of replacing the oil pressure switch, but if the problem lies with an electrical issue, then I'm in deeper than I thought.
@metz, thinking about it, I remember seeing that note on the oil level in haynes. Mind you, I haven't touched the oil since I got the thing early March, so that issue lies with the garage my auntie got it serviced at.
Thanks.

Did your original clocks have a light for the temp gauge or just a red section on it? I went from a set of clocks with the led (91 J reg CL) to a set without (late spec clocks form a 94 car) Without problems

My CL clocks have a red section for the temp gauge. They also had an oil warning LED. The ones I have now only appear to have a fuel level warning light, (as well as the usual GT features), over my CL clocks. I thought that would mean I wouldn't have any problems. Could the problem be because I have a late spec car with some '91 spec GT clocks in?

Mk3s dont have fuel warning lights, it should have either 3 or 4 red LEDs, later ones have a handbrake, battery and oil warning light. Early ones have the same with the addition of a temp warning light. The label for this is a thermometer iirc. Ive never heard anyone have this problem before. Pettsy's selling some late spe GT clocks on ebay which might sort out your problem but IMO he wants too much for them. Whats it like with your old clocks in again?

The fuel warning light I didn't explain very clear, thats just a fuel low warning light. It flashes at start up while the fuel pump primes, then goes out (thats how I concluded it was a fuel light anyway, correct me if I'm wrong

)
With my CL clocks in, the oil light comes on, then goes out before you next turn the key to start the motor. I thought this was normal, but having spoken to Tahrey and metz, it would appear my CL clocks don't function as normal, as the oil light doesn't flash before the motor starts. It just blinks on and off, then thats it.
I have tried 2 sets so far, and have one up for sale, this other set I have installed. I mean surely 2 sets can't be faulty? Especially when they both did exactly the same thing when I installed one set of GT clocks after another and tested.
Thanks.
