hi, new member here, hello all.

had a problem today that I could do with some help on. I started up out polo today and left her ticking over while I de iced the windows, it took about 5 min to do that. so I jumped in and blipped the throttle, she splutterd a bit so I left her to idle some more, I tried to rev her up but she splutterd and cut out. now she will not start at all, just gives a 'cough' after being turned over for a few min?
any ideas?
I have cleaned out the dizzy.
done the unplug of the water sensor thing [unplug, turn it over for about 10 sec, then try and start it normaly, still unplugged]
I get a good spark off the coil H.T lead.

Welcome John

I would say this could possibly be a faulty coolant temperature sensor. It's very common on these

Whilst you are doing that, consider cleaning out the throttle body as if that's gunked up it won't help matters

Have you cleaned out the throttle body? Unplugging the temperature sensor won't fix the problem. That fix only applies to the older mk3 and very early mk4 polos
