'Lyon' 15" alloys for new Polo - 2 different designs!

Hi all. I'm waiting on a 1.2 TSI SE Carmen Red ordered with some add-ons - ACC, navigation, folding mirrors, Light & Sight. As for wheels, I was tempted by the 16" 'Knight' alloys which look amazing but I decided to stick with the 10-spoke 'Lyon' alloys as per the brochure, they look fine. Yesterday I went back to the showroom for something and there was a 1.2 TSI SE on display which I would assume to be exactly the same as the one I will eventually (March/April) receive. Great, except the wheels were different. They were 15-spoke and looked far too 'busy' for my taste. A swine to clean as well, I would imagine. When I enquired about them, I was told they were standard 'Lyon' alloys that came with the car. Not happy about this, I pulled out the brochure and showed the guy the pictures therein of the 10-spoke wheels quoted as 'Lyon'. When asked how come 2 different wheels had the same name he had no idea but said he would let me know. Then and there I told him that if my car arrived with the 15-spoke version I wouldn't accept it. Airily he replied "If they come with the 15's we'll just change them for the 10's." I went away reasonably happy with this but now I'm not so sure. What if the 10-spokes are n/a when my car arrives, what do I do? To be absolutely happy should I forget about the 'Lyons' and stump up for the 'Knights'. Then again, why should I feel I need to? Has anyone got any experience of this sort of thing, please? Many thanks!

Yes, when I was ordering my Polo the same thing was threatened, the dealer tried to fob me off saying the 'busier' (and far uglier) alloys were more expensive and VW were only giving me a free upgrade because there were not enough 'Lyon' alloys made. I specifically asked for them to find me a Polo without those fitted. The busier alloys have a different name to the Lyon ones, not sure what though.

Went to a couple of dealerships yesterday and noticed that around half the new Polos dotted around had those 'busy' 15s fitted. Also, quite a few demonstrators are now up for sale around the country and when viewed on-line they are all, without exception, referred to by the dealerships as 'Lyon' 15-inch alloys so I don't think there's a different name for them. Worrying. As previously stated, my dealer has assured me that if my car comes fitted with these he will change them for the brochure style. Fair enough I guess, but it's still giving me cause for concern which shouldn't be happening. However, surely I have the upper hand here? I've stated my position and can dictate the outcome as they're not having my signature unless I'm totally happy. Nothing I can do but wait and see I guess. When are you expecting your delivery? What have you ordered? My 5-door, ordered on 14 November, was quoted as "Build week 10 but could go 3 weeks either way'.

Someone on my street has a 6c with those 'busier' alloys. The regular 'Lyon' alloys are much nicer.

Still, if offered at the right price, I wouldn't completely reject a second hand or a pre-ordered car.

Slightly off topic, but I have those regular Lyon wheels on my car and they are by no means easy to clean!
While they look easy to do, the gap between the spokes is tiny and gets narrower along the spoke making the whole job rather fiddly! It also isn't helped by the size of the wheel (tiny 15"!).
However, after searching the 'busier' Lyon alloys I've realised that I don't like them either!

Btw, don't worry about not being able to swap the busier wheels for the regular ones. The chances are that if you tell them that you want them changed, they will just do a straight swap between another new Polo lying about (Dealers always have loads of new Polo's sat around in compounds as stock - or in the unlikely event that they won't have another Polo, they could always swap them on to a similar Polo from another dealer close by.) - This kind of thing happens all of the time at Dealers (often between swapping faulty parts found out at PDI onto a similar spec car)

For example, the closest experience I have of this is when one of my Dad's friends recently bought a new Golf R in Black. On collection morning, he noticed that the tailgate on the car was not a perfect match to the rest of the body. The dealer said "Fine, give us half an hour". So, they whipped the R into the workshop, and brought in another pre PDI Black Golf R (to be the Dealer's new Demo). They stuck the cars side by side and swapped the tailgates over there and then to make the car My Dad's friend's car look perfect with the Demo now left with a dodgy tailgate!

Overall, my advice would be to not worry - at the end of the day, Polo's are as common as muck!
Sorry for rambling on,
Tom :D

They're the decent ones. An example of the 'busy' ones to which I'm referring are shown at this address:

Thanks for the feedback. I'm still toying with the idea of getting the 'Knights' - I think there's still time to change the order.

Agree 100%. Noting a previous post - if I do get lumbered with these I'll just hold out for a straight swop.

I don't think that they're hideously ugly, but they're not great. I'd want the proper Lyon alloys myself.
