This quote is supposed to be from Car magazine. It's attributed to Bernd Pischetsrieder - so someone who's able to put it into action!
The Golf GTi is a glorious example of a marketing inspired faliure. We had an icon, yet we managed to kill it. The GTI sold up until the end of last year was a joke. It was too slow, too average. It was not a proper GTI. It was a good example of marketing getting it wrong. If it hadn't been for those fans of the old Golf GTI, and their clubs and meetings, the icon would have completely disappeared. Thats why we decided the GTI had to be revived. And it has been properly revived now, with the new model.
It all bodes really well for the MK5 GTI -- let's all hope his line of thinking makes it through to the Polo GTI as well!!

Well let's hope the Polo GTi 9n (2) or whatever it'll be does not have a turbo, for a proper GTi you really need a high reving unit, after all what was wrong with the 1.8 16v from the mk2 Golf, everyone raved about it and still do.

Honda do without turbo chargers and look what they can extract from 2 litres.

 a GTI whooping 200+bhp (some have been clocked at 215, standard) 0-60 in under 6.5 seconds top speed 150+ limiter is over 9000 rpm and all for about the same weight as a polo fun.

Sorry. I still luvs VW.
