Hi there,

Excuse my lack of electrical knowledge but I thought that before a bulb blows the fuse does?

Anyway I might be wrong on that but I've installed an aftermarket Fog Light kit on my Volkswagen Polo 2010. The wiring contains a small black box with two cables for the battery with a fuse on the positive cable. There are two other cables which attach to the lights and one cable for the switch.

I managed to wire it all up no problems at all but for some reason after a month one of my lights blew and then a month later the other. So now I have two blown bulbs (which look melted and black) and I have no idea what's happened?
The fuse on the positive battery cable hasn't blown so I don't understand what's happened here at all. I've disconnecting everything in the meantime while I get some help.

Fuses don't blow when bulbs blow fuses blow when the current exceeds the number on the fuse.
Bulbs sometimes do go brown when they blow, what system have you got fitted? Haven't heard of that setup before

Please make a drawing with all wires connected from point to point and show us exactly as you connected the wires.

Where did you buy the kit? Do you have any link or similar?

It's a little different but the wiring looks to be the same.

As for the connections I have connected the positive and negative as I said before to the battery, the two other cables to the lights and the switch cable to the switch in the car (had to get a new switch as the original only had pins for rear fog lights)

Nothing other than that. I'll make a small drawing if needs be to show you for further clarity.

@saty - thanks for that haha I didn't realise that. I always thought the fuse was there to protect the bulb.

NO is need to draw a picture, with the link is enough for me.
Your current electrical installation is for VW POLO manufactured for the Chinese market.

It is intrepid to make an electrical installation without knowing it is a relay (small black box).

-The original electrical installation of your POLO already have that relay (J59), provides electric power (75x) to front fog lights and rear fog light.
-The fuse in the link seems higher amperage than needed, it should be blue 15 Amp.
-Your bulbs are melted due to connect directly to battery (+30), especially due overload when starting. (peaks electric current)

Switch light and fog lamps are correct.

If you want to save time and money and your fog lights work correctly do the following.

1- Buy a wiring like this: (eg)

2- Remove your current electrical installation and install the new one purchased in this way: (more easy than the other)



a- From the slot 8 lights switch connector to the fuse (SB54 fuse box).
b- From the fuse to fog lamps.
c- From de fog lamps to ground (eye terminal)

It is impossible to go wrong with the terminals.
The installation will be exactly like factory and will work perfectly.
