Nice spec. It'll be one epic ride!
Red is such a great GTI colour.

Great spec. Good to see someone going for the GTI, everyone (including myself) seems to have been going for the Blue GT of late.

Congrats on the order mate!
I've been sorely tempted to order one myself as the reviews and details started to come out.
These have LED's as standard don't they?
I also like the idea of the 1.8, not that I've had any problems with my 1.4 twin charger, and feel the tuning potential is higher on the new engine.
I'm also having difficulty trying to decide if I'd go for the DSG or manual version, I guess the latter would be more suitable if I'm going to remap it at some point (like I have all my last few cars..).
Did VW offer any sort of deal on the price, if you didn't mind me asking?

I read the DSG model has way less torque than the manual? Guess that would impact the tuning a lot. Auto express claim its 70nm down on the manual

Re DSG vs Non DSG Having less torque but 1 extra gear probably won't make that much difference. It'll change gear more but as it's faster to change gear with less power loss they'll probably be fairly even performance wise.
Having a DSG in my 2013 GTI I'd never go back to manual now. 90% of my driving is in town and it's so convenient. Pair it up with adaptive cruise control and it's ideal.
I'd be interested to see what sort of discount you negotiated. To me the GTI is a bit overpriced when compared to the Golf which can be got at a good price.

Cheers guys. Looking forward to it.
A few answers to questions.
I did agonize over whether to get the manual over the DSG. The torque difference did indeed play on my mind. I've had every Polo GTI ever produced so that included a few manuals and decided that if i could guarantee open roads all the time it would be the manual but after being stuck in traffic alot of the time the DSG is a dream. I would however be interested in trying a manual version once they start appearing as demo models at the dealerships.
Yes it does has the full LED lights inc DRL. It gets alot of kit as standard, quite impressed really.
Re the cost. I contacted 2 dealerships and played them against each other, bit of distance between them, but I was prepared to travel. I think there was a bit more discount available but managed to get 10% off a nearly £24000 car.
Not having it on PCP or anything like that. Good luck to those wanting to buy one, you may be able to bag a better deal, I was happy enough with that.
Obviously will post pics when I eventually get it. Not going to do anything fancy with it, I'll leave that to some of you experts!

Has to be a manual. The DSG GTI only gets 250Nm of torque like the Blue GT. I have had 2 VW DSGs in the past, a diesel Eos and a Golf GTI. I regretted it on both occasions and will never get one again. The actual gear change is good, but it's never at the right moment and there's a lot of drivetrain shunt around town. I like proper autos with a torque converter, but even if the DSG was a no-cost option I wouldn't get it.

I'm thinking of ordering one! Out of curiosity, I just checked the VW UK configurator and found that a poverty spec GTI could be had per month for little more than my SE 1.2 TSI!
I've logged on to CarWow to send me the most competitive deals on a GTI in the country. I never realised how cheaply you could get one before!

Congrats on your order! Did your dealer give you any estimated date of delivery? I visited my local VW dealer today as I was interested in ordering one but was told I would need to wait 4 months for mine with expected delivery date of May (which is too long for me to wait)

Cheers. I'm being told by the dealer to expect delivery sometime in March. It just shows order processed at the moment on tracking, so early days. Surprised to hear of a 4 month wait, maybe worth ringing around. Good luck.
I would be disappointed if I have to wait that long.....

I would imagine the 4 months is for a worst case scenario, but in reality the car should be delivered faster than that.
But yes - 20 weeks is a kind of 'default' answer I believe, so peoples expectations can be met.

Order now with the factory. My current GTI took 11 weeks from order to delivery. If I'm lucky with this one then that would put it at the back of March.
I feel pretty laid back about it all though, there are worse things in life than having to wait for a new car.
