Mk 3 polo's in scrap yards

hi all
just thought that I would vent my frustrations about my local scrap yards (south wales).

I have spent the last week trying to track down a Mk3 polo in a scrap yard to get some bits,n,bobs and possibly an interior.

after hours of trying to explain that a Mk3 was a Mk2f and not the Mk 4 version that they all seem to think it is, I was assured by one scrap yard that he had a black GT with black interior that he would sell to me for £50.

great I thought, so off I drive for 2 hours, only to find a MK4 CL!!!!!!

I have finally found a MK3 GT in a scrap yard, but its a good few hours drive away from me and they want £100 for a complete grey GT interior with damaged sides on the drivers seat. At the moment I don't know what to do?

Are GT interiors difficult to get hold of? Is £100 an average price? I have asked for an interior in the wanted section of the forum, but the closest (and only reply that I have had) is in Nottingham, which is one hell of journey for me.

I'm a little bit peeved that I can't seem to find a MK3 polo locally, and would be grateful to know if anyone else is having these kind of problems

£100 quid is steep for a less than great grey GT interior. If it was a mint interior, then 100 quid is good money to pay. Some black GT interiors (from what I can gather) fetch a premium as black GT interiors are rare.

Thanks.

Karl.

i thought as much. I was thinking about paying around the £40 to £50 mark for the full interior, but finding one is the problem

I have three in my local scrappy, and not a single mk2  I'd ask for a GT interior quote, but I think they're all CL's..

£100 is daft for a not very good condition grey GT interior.

I've seen black ones sell for less.

I'd keep checking the classifieds on here & other Polo forums.

Whereabouts are you from mate? I'm from Cardiff, and if you're from here I sympathise with what you're saying.

Spent ages trawling local scrappies with my brother looking for cheap bits for his Mk2. We went to one yard who wouldn't help us take a bumper off a Mk3 (planning a bumper conversion) and wouldn't lend us the tools either. Then went to another who had just got a nasty looking Mk2 Golf in sporting 14" run-out 8v BBS wheels. There was a set of 4, with tyres, corroded to f**k but straight. In need of some serious TLC basically. The guy running the yard was quick to give a quote of £150 for the set! I could get a FAR better set for that much, so we turned and left.

The best scrappie locally is a yard which sells ONLY bumpers, lights and the odd set of wheels. That's where I got my back bumper from. Problem is, he's open maybe 3 days a week across the 5 usual working days, so actually catching him working is one hell of a task.

If you've got a Fiesta, you'll find what you need, and cheap too, otherwise forget it.

hi mate.
I'm fromthe Rhondda Valleys, but travel to Barry every day.
It's good to know that its not just me who gets these problems.
It is annoying tho, maybe the lack of cars in the scrappy's is a testament to how good they realy are despite our constant winging about their faults :?
