Another mod I am looking into for my Polo 9N is the anti-dazzel rear view mirror with rain sensor. The part numbers I have from ETKA 6 - 436(old) are:

I have asked VAG-parts to quote on the cost and if it is in a resonable price range I will go ahead with the order. I will get back to you when it is done.

From the erWin manual it looks as though this connects into the reading and interior light circuit.

It looks as though this mod will require an accident with the front window to get a replacment one with the rain sensor in. Even if you don't want to do this the glass is listed @ £140 but VAG-Parts are a lot cheaper than the RRP. Part # 6Q0 845 011 E (with tint and with view for VIN)

Anybody done this or got it and can confirm that there is a difference in the winscreen. i.e. part of the sensor is in the windscreen.

I assume the system overrides the wiper switch as there is no switch listed with specifics to this mod.

You just use the same wiper switch to enable the system. Move the wiper stalk to the first position, this is usually intermittant wipe, then the system does the rest.

This is an expensive mod and you rarely see people carrying this through, you could forgoe the wiper functionality and just fit the parts minus the windscreen to get the autodimming function.

I take it there is a sensor in the windscreen then.

I had an older polo 1.0L I must have gone through five windscreens on that car. The insurance company always asked whether it was tinted or clear. Being honest I said clear, until the last time when Autoglass called to ask what type it was. I ask them whether they were bothered. Now it has tinted glass. I hope I could do the same with the rain sensor. They have never ask for VIN numbers etc.
