Hi,

I've been the proud owner of a polo 6n2 since last May but mine (like a majority of millennium period Vw's) has an oxidised headlight which was an advisory on it's last mot but now I believe it will fail on it this year. I'd rather not have to change it at the moment as it's hassle to take the front of the car off etc... so I was wondering did anyone have any recommendations with regards to polish it off or similar? I know there are many kits out there but would like recommendations for the best ones, any help is greatly appreciated.

I have sucessfully cleaned mine up to a decent level. I have done this on a few cars now and refined my approach,

Tools
2000 grade wet & dry
cork block
T-cut
Polish
lots of dusters

First use the wet & dry "wet" with the cork blockto remove the worst of the oxidation - it's up to you if you want to do this with the headlight in or out of the car. I'm careful enough to be able to leave them in. Go steady & gentle using lateral and circular strokes as relevant for the part you are working on.

When you are happy that the worst has been removed and there are no scratches move onto using T-Cut to further remove oxidization and start the polishing process. I believe toothpaste also works and is slightly more aggressive.

When you are happy with the finish, remove the T-Cut remainder and polish to a nice shine.

I get a decent result within about an hour, though I am sure there are others out there with more sophisticated techniques and more exotic materials
