1.4 16v or 1.6 16v is your best bet.

Best engine that allready came in the polo so not to bad to fit.

As for a 2lt, I would recommend an Ibiza engine, they are a longer block compared to the golf which is a tall block and hard to fit in the polo.

Best to just stick with small blocks cos when u get too front end heavy ur handling will go to s**t.

I'd love to put a 2.0l 16v engine out of the Beefer cupra in one - It would have to be the Ibiza one as the Golf one sits at the wrong angle (unless you want to mess about with the bonnet.

The 20vT is too expensive and a pain in the ass when it comes to electrics

The VR6 is awesome but leaves a quite unstable ride when trying to make sharp turns (loads and loads of understeer) but in a straight line nothing (imo) can beat it.

Plus theres always the option of fitting a G40 or speaking to JBS and getting a G60...

Just some ideas for you to mull over...

1.4 16v doesnt really give u that much extra bhp. GTi engine would be good, but prob expensive :(

You gonna fit it yourself?

Engine shouldnt be too much, try and get one from a car which is the same age as yours though.

£500-£800 for an engine and maybe £1200-£1500 to get it fited by a professional?

better leave it for a pro, so if anything goes wrong , u can blame them!!

prices vary...

how about going for an original engine conversion that i think isn't considered enough.......

 The Range of Tdi Pd engines?

im pretty sure a 1.4tdi will fit in easily enough. 75bhp as standard, revo'd to over 90bhp IIRC = loads of Torque! 8)

how about the TDI PD lump they are now using in that polo race car, all they have done is chipped it, exhaust and made it breath easier and it got 200bhp and massive ammounts of torque!

Thats the conversion i want!
