Can anybody point me in the right direction of a microphone for the RNS 315.
Also some pointers on how to install it would be great.
Thanks.

271587710788 Item on eBay or 201103230356. Green connector plugs straight into a spare slot on the harness (rear of stereo).
You just need to route the cable behind the glove box, up the pillar trim into the space behind the interior light. If you haven't installed a mic previous, you'll need to break off the insert for the mic on the required side and fit.
Nice and easy.

Will it fit into any slot on the harness?
Does the pillar trim just unclip?

I believe there's only one place it fits. It's really easy. If you're looking at the iso connector I think it's the bottom left slot. It'll clip straight in.
The pillar trims are a bit tight and require some force but far easier with trim tools. The have metal expanding clip type fixings which can be a bit tricky, but pressure / leverage in the right place and you'll be fine.
If you really get stuck, let me know and I'll take some pics but it won't be until later in the week.

If anyone could also help that would be great as I'm also looking to install a microphone, sorry to hijack the thread mate, but is it easy to push the microphone wire through the roof to pop out were the light is, and is there an easy insert to put the microphone in the light holder even if I have never had a microphone before ?

Yes, there are two (a left and a right) pre built slots for the mic. All you need to do is break the relevant tab out of the side you want and insert the mic. It simply clips in.

What's the best way to go at getting the pillar trim off?
Had a go earlier and couldn't get it to budge.

There's a thread running at the moment about it.
The pillar trim uses metal expanding inserts which are quite tough to get out.
I use plastic trim tools / levers. Start at the top obvious and level the trim open. You can then insert another tool further in to around where the first fixing is.
Basically you lever and pull from the top with your hand. You can then get the trim tool further in so you can try and pop the first clip out.
It takes a lot of force but will pop out eventually or the clip with come away from the trim and stay in the metal work.
Once you've got the first out its easier.
Be careful not to lose the clips if they pop out and fall into the cars inners !

I think there's a few places that people use. Behind the glove box for example. Personally I routed mine into the roof space and stuck it to the roof. I get all satelites and it never misses a beat.
Hope this helps.

Up under the dash. There is a big crossmember that the dash is mounted too. That's where mine sits.

How does the microphone slot into the interior light? There's 2 slots with plastic covers in them?

Also another question. Will my car suffer from the battery drain issue people have? I have a 2011 polo SEL.

Gary, you need to break out the plastic tab (remove) in the slot of your choice. Mic just slots in. You'll hear or feel a click when it's in properly.
No battery drain.
