6R Cruise Control Retrofit Problems

Post by robertsm66 »

Hi All
So I'm having issues with my Cruise control retrofit. I'm pretty good around the car and sucessfully installed PDC/OPS last week without any issues.

However retrofitting cruise control is a different story all together. Not only is it pretty complex but it probably the most painful install I've attempted as my hands are cut to shreads from getting them into little gaps behind the dash.

First off you need to add 6 new wires to the connector to the left of the steering wheel, this is the easy bit and presents no challenges. Obviously you change the stalks around which is simple but the trouble starts when you have to add further wires to two large connectors located way behind the steering wheel accessible via the footwell. Without taking the dash apart and fuse box out this is a real challenge and killed my back.

You then pull a single wire through the dash in the engine bay and add to the wiring loom going into ECU (atleast I think it is). This is also fun as it has security screws. I thought I had every tool possible...but nothing that could take these out apart from my dremel and a cutting disc.

So after several painful hours, I coded with VCDS.....and guess what...it doesn't work ! I'm getting the fault code off the engine module as below.

6118 - Cruise Control Switch (E45)
P0568 00 [039] - Implausible Signal
Not Confirmed - Tested Since Memory Clear
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 00000001
Fault Priority: 2
Fault Frequency: 1
Mileage: 65645 km
Date: 2042.14.15
Time: 16:13:16

I'm a beaten man and I think I'll just pay someone to fix it now ! Unless anyone can shed any light on the matter ?

I admire some of you guys and your tech know how. I just buy a car and drive it.
But I'm thinking why don't you just buy a car with it fitted, or is that part of the fun. :?

Oh I'm glad you had a go of this before me

I have a 1.2 (70ps) moda, (with the correct BCM) and have purchased the 'cruise control without DIS' kit

Hi Robert,

Would anything from Elsawin help (circuit diagram, service/repair guides) or ETOS (part numbers)? I've got access, tell me if you need anything. And thanks for the PM response!

Thanks Ciclo. Coding good. Am I right in thinking that my wire from the interior to the ECU should plug into terminal 94 ?

My instructions say 45.

The fault only shows up on VCDS when I flick the cruise control switch on.

Actually looking at the wiring diagram in detail it doesn't correspond to my instructions. A few similarities but lots of differences.

Not sure if that's good or bad.

T94 is the connector, and 45 is the terminal. Therefore you have properly installed the wire.

The above diagram is the area of the engine control unit and...
The following diagram is the area of the levers (combined switch) of the steering column.

Image

Cruise control system switch, Cruise control system (CCS) SET button, Blocking diode, Onboard supply control unit, Steering column electronics control unit
E45 - Cruise control system switch
E227 - Cruise control system (CCS) SET button
J29 - Blocking diode
J519 - Onboard supply control unit
J527 - Steering column electronics control unit
J623 - Engine control unit
SB11 - Fuse 11 on fuse holder B
T41 - 41-pin connector
T73a - 73-pin connector
T73b - 73-pin connector
A130 - Connection (CCS), in dash panel wiring harness
B149 - Positive connection 2 (15a), in interior wiring harness
* - see applicable current flow diagram for engine
*2 - Up to May 2010
*3 - From May 2010

In this diagram you have to look the connections of T41 (E45) to T73b BCM (J519) connector. Each feather flock together ... :)

- Make sure all wires are in the correct position.
- Check that the terminals are properly engaged in their slots. (very common mistake)

Failure VCDS is logical. When you apply the CCS, the system can not find the cable.

T73a = Black connector (a wire, supply)
T73b = White connector (the other wires)

Hello
I have a polo 6r 1.6 tdi and also want to install the cruise control.
I already have the lever and the wires, the scheme is the same as the polo 1.2 tsi?
The wires are 6, one is positive, 4 go to BCM and the other will the ECU?

In BCM, the A44 pin is to connect? In the BCM scheme does not mention the CCS. Is there a scheme for me to know for sure which pin connecting the BCM, the positive and the ECU?

Please show me a picture of your fuse box under the steering wheel.
You may not need to connect this wire, depends your fuse box.

On the other hand, if you release the black connector on the BCM and there is a wire in T73a/44 you do not need to connect this wire, but maybe you have to put a 2 amp fuse in your fuse box.

To know exactly where to put this fuse is need to know the tenth letter of the VIN of your Polo: http://www.uk-polos.net/view ... 09#p478942
